Fred Meijer Pioneer Trail

printable trail map
Fred Meijer Pioneer TrailThe Fred Meijer Pioneer Trail provides a vital link between the Musketawa Trail, the Fred Meijer White Pine State Trail, and trails within the City of Grand Rapids.  With this connection, trail users can explore a continuous trail network stretching from lakeshore communities, to urban Grand Rapids, north to Cadillac, and beyond.

Construction on the Pioneer Trail began in 2010. The first completed segment runs from the eastern end of the Musketawa Trail to the intersection of Walker Ave and Four Mile Rd. The next phase, which is currently in development, will continue along 3 Mile Rd. from Walker Ave to Alpine Ave. After crossing Alpine, the trail will follow a mix of highway right of way and easements on commercial property to reach West River Drive. Crossing West River, the route will continue north along abandoned railway until reaching Lamoreaux Memorial Park, with it connections to the Fred Meijer White Pine State Trail and the City of Grand Rapids' Riverside Trail.

Trailheads for the completed segment are at 8th Ave north of Garfield and Irwin Seating, on Fruitridge Ave.

Completed segments of the Pioneer Trail are accessible to people with disabilities. The trail is predominantly level, following most abandoned rail lines, and road right of ways, with some natural areas in between.
